K: At the end of The Last Live Video, the logo of X's color is
changing to violet, then the preview of Violet UK starts.
Y: Oh, did you notice that? When I was making it, I thought no one
would notice it.
K: The logo of X was kept still for such a long time so I think
everybody may notice it (laugh).
Y: Then do you know there's one more "trick" in the video?
K: What?
Y: The color of "A" in Amethyst in the song list at the end of the
video is different from others.
K: I guess it may be violet.
Y: Yes. I made a song called "Dahlia" a few years ago and I read a
poem in that song --"Destiny, Alive...", if you combine the first
letter of each word, then you will find that will be "DAHLIA".
K: I didn't know that!
Y: It repeated twice but there is no word starting from "A" at the
very last.
K: That is "A" for "Amethyst"?
Y: Yes, that's right.
K: That means Violet UK is the sequel of "X"?
Y: I recognize Violet UK as a second X. I don't figure Violet UK as my
solo project.
K: I could find the trick of logo in the video. When I heard the lyric
of "I see red, I see blue..." in "The Last Song", I noticed that if we
mix red and blue, it becomes violet. It is the very "Violet UK"!
Y: "I see red" means "I get angry". And "I see blue" means "I am
depressed " or "I feel lonely". "But the silver lining gradually takes
over, when the morning begins, I'll be in the next chapter". This was
referred to the proverb of "Every cloud has a silver lining". It means
that there is a joy at riverse side of the sorrow.
K: Hm...
Y: I used the same expression such as "I see red, I see blue" in the
new song of Violet UK called "The other side".
K: X had been expressing "anger" using the word "red" which is
symbolized in "Kurenai", and "grief" using the word "blue" which is
symbolized in "Blue Blood". Those red and blue are mixed up and then
you see the violet dawn has come. That means you are going to make a
positive sound in Violet UK, right?
Y: No, basically Violet UK is negative.
K: Really?
Y: Yes. I made a song called "Hollywood black sheep". Its lyric is
like "Even if I will die tomorrow, that's a mere death of a rock-star".
K: Hollywood black sheep...
Y: I mean it like "who will cry for my death?".
K: It's so masochistic.
Y: Yes. And about "The other side", it means "take me to the other
side". This song is also about the death basically.
K: Did you want to say "erase me from this world" instead of "take me
to the other side in order to live".
Y: Yes, that's right. I wrote many songs about death. I used the word
"suicide" many times.
K: Suicide... that's too heavy.
Y: Yes, they are heavy.
K: According to the preview of Violet UK, you talked about the
musicality of Violet UK at the interview in Korea. You said, "I was
helped by the music when I was depressed. So I would like to make a
beautiful and touched music and help the people with the music".
Y: Yes.
K: Is Violet UK's music negative although you said so?
Y: I think the positive energy comes into prominence by the negativity.
For example, the beauty in the poison is to be looked very beautiful.
The pleasure in the grief seems to be very pleasnat. Isn't it?
K: Certainly.
Y: Therefore, we feel the beauty, which is suddenly appeard in the
grief or poison, very positive.
K: I think it's the way of very paradoxical expression. X used to
express in that way.
Y: It may be the same. It becomes more radical in Violet UK. I use the
expression which I couldn't use in X. There are many violent songs in
VioletUK. Originally VioletUK's sound came from digital... what to say,
a kind of trip hop, like Tricky and Massive Attack. Then it combined
with punk and rock, too.
K: As far as I know from your interview, the element of classical
music and noise guitar are also combined.
Y: Yes, it's like the sound of 7-chord guitar is added into the very
beautiful melodies.
K: Oh, I'm very surprised because VioletUK sound will be completely
different from what I supposed it to be.
Y: My guitar sound was affected by hide's. hide used to give me so
many guitar tracks. When I recorded "The Last Song", hide took so many
tracks of guitar sound. I wondered why he took so many tracks and
brought them to me. It was very hard for me to edit them. But I can
understand now why he did it.
K: Violet UK would be a second X in the meaning of that you are
influenced by hide.
Y: Regarding the guitar sound, I agree.
K: In the preview of Violet UK, visual element will be very important.
You plan to juxtapose a fashion show in your concert.
Y: I think music is bound up with screen. Don't you think so?
K: Then your concert will not be the ordinary one like "a band comes
to the stage and they play".
Y: That is my real concept. I plan to have the concert which is just
an ordinary one. But, during the tour, also it may happen that no band
appears on the stage. I think it will be something like ameba.
K: Ameba?
Y: Yes. It is always changing.
K: The more I hear your idea, the more I am confused. I can't catch
your concept (laugh).
Y: I'm satisfied to hear you are confused. I would like everyone to be
confused.
K: Then what does UK mean?
Y: It was originally "Violet" but we had a problem about copyright.
Then how about Violet UK? It's like X Japan... things went on like
that.
K: Really?
Y: I thought about the meaning of UK, like "Underground Kingdom". I
was originally influenced by UK bands such as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin,
Iron Meiden excepting KISS. I don't know why I'm recording such sound
in LA (laugh).
K: You declared in Film GIG in Korea that you would be back to the
stage this year.
Y: It would be awkward if I won't come back to the stage this year (laugh).
I can definitely finish recording according to the schedule. I already
finished making songs. I had made more than 30 songs. And there are
some songs which I have already finished mixing.
K: Then you can release the album right now.
Y: Only problem is the average time of the songs. They are about 10
minutes long. I have to work to shorten them. I had finished editing
the Last Live Video and I could pass the line. So I feel like I am
going to go forward.
