Translator (Danny)'s note: this is a translation, not a direct
translation, meaning parts are modified to fit in the English language.
Due to the nature of Japanese, if I was to directly translate this
type of article, then the meaning would be lost in English. Therefore,
I have tried my best to make it authentic and full of its original
impact! So enjoy!
In LA, April 1991, when Yoshiki was still in the middle of recording X
Japan's second album, "Jealousy", his plan for Violet UK was born out
of a sudden. "I want to try doing something that you can't do as a
band!" Now that 14 and a half years had passed by, Violet UK will
finally be released in its entirety on 22nd September 2005. Yoshiki's
"principle of perfectionism" is almost scary. An amazing 10 years were
spent on the production of this project, and this reason has caused
the creation of "A type of music that has never been heard by anyone
up until now".
In LA, Yoshiki continued to write over 300 songs, with one unfinished
song having had more than 18,000 takes. From amongst these songs, he
has carefully selected the music that will surely make up a completely
unique album. As a band, Violet UK is stylistically and musically non-categorized,
and is centered on the use of cutting edge of the musical technology.
Featuring multiple female vocalists and rappers, it can even be seen
as the development of a type of anarchistic techno punk. Of course
Yoshiki's specialty: "beautiful melodies", are there in abundance, but
at the same time there is also an overflowing venom and danger. In
this sense, Yoshiki's worldwide outlook itself is definitely an
extension of X Japan (in other words, a 2nd X Japan).
It was the evolution of music technology in the late 90s that has made
Yoshki's worldwide outlook remarkably more technical, more accurate
and more definite. Yoshiki can hear each and every single sound. One
can even say, without fear of misunderstanding, that in some sense "It
was due to X Japan that Violet UK was able to be conceived".
"Violet" means a color and a race beyond humanity, while at the same
time it is a mix of red and blue, or anger and sadness. On the other
hand, "UK" is the short form of "Underground Kingdom". Not only that,
this non-categorized rock is, of course, also aimed for a world wide
release. The day when Violet UK and its metaphorical "Dangerous
Anarchism"-like sound be heard in the street is soon approaching.
"I think that it will be good if I use Violet UK as an opportunity to
breathe life back into the rock scene. Just like what happened when I
started X Japan. But this time I don’t want to ride on X's wave, I
want to create a completely new wave instead" says YOSHIKI with a
smile.
