Yoshiki's Message about joining Globe -- no.1
I'm Kikuchi, the interviewer. We, the staff of Yoshiki Mobile, were
very surprised to hear the announcement on September 1. It becomes the
talk of not only music industry but also everywhere. There are
arguments pro and con regarding Yoshiki's joining Globe among both
Yoshiki and Globe fans. Therefore we will have an interview with
Yoshiki. We asked the staff of the recording company to make an
arrangement of interview with Yoshiki.
K: Good morning. We're the staff of Yoshiki Mobile. Nice to meet you.
Is it ok for you to have an interview now?
Y: That's ok, though I don't have much time.
K: Your speech at a-nation on September 1 became a subject of
discussion.
Y: Really? What did I say?
K: You said, "I'm Globe's Yoshiki for the present". X Japan's fans are
sad to hear that you said so.
Y: My blood is blue!
K: What?
Y: Oh, you don't know about X Japan well, do you?
K: I'm sorry. I know X Japan and become X Japan's fan recently, so I
don't get the meaning of what you said. Is your blood blue?
Y: The blood of X is flowing in my body. X fans knew it. May I try to
cut somewhere in my body?
K: What? (Is he saying it in earnest?) It means that you are X Japan's
Yoshiki every time?
Y: I said my blood is blue!
K: (What should I say?) I don't understand what you said. I'll ask
XJapan's fans later. Well, I have to ask another question. Did you
take part in making trance version of "Say Anything" which was used as
BGM at a-nation?
Y: No, I didn't.
K: What do you think about remaking of X Japan songs by other artists?
Y: It's nice. I don't mind (say frankly).
K: Is that all?
Y: When some artist remake other artists' song, it usually gives rise
to public censure in Japan, USA or whatever other countries. For
example, when Mariah Carey sang "Open Arms" of Journey, the composer
got angry (I like that version, though), and Massive Attack (English
band) sang Doors' songs (I think they're cool). There are so many
things like those. You can understand it when you come to think of how
many artists remade Beatles' songs. I think the songs which are remade
are usually good and effective. There are lots of songs with dance mix
version, too. I'm also recording a certain American band's song in
dance mix version for Dahlia. The problem is what each artist's fans
think and accept the songs which are remade.
Yoshiki's message -- no.2
K: I see! Thank you for explaining in detail. Then next question.
There are the pros and cons about your joining Globe among Globe fans.
Will you please give them a comment?
Y: I will withdraw from Globe. Sorry for disturbing you (laugh).
K: What? Don't say that!
Y: Well, then I will do a little more (laugh). They have been
establishing not only their own music but also their friendship, and
the reliance between members and their fans. If someone suddenly join
Globe, everybody may be bewildered. Even if that's not me, Globe's
fans are confused at the fact that someone joins Globe. That means
Globe's fans really love the member of globe that much. I hope those
wonderful relationship between them will continue whether I join or
withdraw. Of course I accepted to join globe with a light heart at
first. It's like "Let's do something interesting at school festival!".
Then I asked what Marc and Keiko think about it. They said they
welcomed me. So, I decided to join Globe. I don't know whether Globe's
fans know or not, I'm living in LA now. I have not grasped Japanese
music circumstances since I had not been back to Japan these few years.
I have been working for Violet UK and always thinking of the debut of
Violet UK in the USA. In addition, I have produced American artists.
The reason I have been staying in LA is that I don't want to remember
my dearest friend's death a few years ago. I am still really sad even
when I speak of his name. In the meantime, I was on the stage at Film
GIG at the beginning of this year, and looked everybody's face there.
I began to think I would like to play on the stage in Japan again. At
that time, I got this offer, so I accepted naturally and said, "Ok,
I'll try to do".
Yoshiki's message -- no.3
Y: I made a target of Violet UK on mainly USA and English market. I
met the member of globe at my house in LA on July. At that time I felt
I was happy with them. At the end of July I came back to Japan for the
press conference of World Expo. After that I began to think about my
joining Globe. The more I think about it, the more I was confused. I
was thinking lots of things: --First, I thought of X Japan's fans'
feelings. Second, the member of Globe's feeling to their fans. In
other words, I wonder whether it's really effective for them that I
join Globe or not. It may result in just making the topic of people's
talk. And, what should I say to the people who have been waiting me
and Violet UK for a long time? I have lots of projects at the same
time, so how do I make my time apportionment? Moreover, I have a
trouble with my wrists and I can't play piano now. Under these
circumstances, we started the recording. This will be the theme song
of TV program so that we have to finish recording by the deadline.
That was on August 26. We had an all-night recording. It was the first
time for me to produce Keiko and Marc's vocal, and I noticed that they
had a awful talent. Of course I have known Mr. Komuro's talent for a
long time. I was very happy and enjoyed recording with them, sometime
we had a chat over the trifles of life until morning, no, until noon (laugh).
Then I started to think that I want to create music with them. That
was the point of time when I made decision. I think everyone has own
circumstances, a kind of bondage, and responsibilities. Sometimes
there are the people who end their life without doing anything they
want. Considering those things, I should join globe and create music
with them because I want to do so. Things will go all right, if not, I
will think about it again at that time. I myself was died inside of me
when Hide was died 4 years ago. I have lived for fans who have been
supporting me. Then I live and go the whole way. And then fans will be
confused... "Wow, I become to contradict... that's too bad". I am
losing my consistence. Anyway "Do it when the time is coming!" Oh,
what question am I answering for now?
K: Well... say something to Globe's fans.
Y: Oh, I remember. Some people may think what I can do in other genres
other than rock because they think I'm a rocker. But I have been
undertaking dance mix, though I like analogue music, I have the best
digital facilities in my studio in LA. Well... that doesn't matter...
Hello everyone, this is Yoshiki.
K: Then please give your comment to X Japan's fans.
Y: My blood is blue. What color is your blood, Mr. Kikuchi?
K: It's red, I think...
Y: That's good. May I cut somewhere to make it sure? (leaving his seat).
K: (escaping) Yoshiki went to find a pin. We have to run away. We will
have another interview by phone later. Wait for a while.
Yoshiki's message -- no.4
A few hours later... We call Yoshiki.
K: May I have your comment to your fans?
Y: Well... "Follow me without say anything!"
K: But... they want to say something. That's why we call you to get
your comment (laugh).
Y: Then "Follow me with saying something" (laugh). I'm not satisfy
even if I write a book to express my feeling now. I always consulted
with hide about everything... He always said, "I want Yoshiki to do as
you want to. I will take care of you". But I don't have anyone to
consult with now... If he's still alive, then after all, I will do
what I want to. I will move forward if my fan will support me, even if
there are few fans. I don't see what exists there clearly, but I guess
there are fantastic and beautiful melodies which I don't know rock or
dance music: those are out of genres. I will be having an adventure on
the way to that place. I'm sure you will understand what I want to say
if you listen my music created with members of Globe. Although I was
said that I was like a baby or a child, I have absolutely confidence
in music, and a talent in music. Please judge whether my joining Globe
is good or not after you will listen the new sound we're making now. I
myself will decide what I will do in the future after that. Well, I
would like to say my feeling to X fans.
Dearest X Japan Fans: I really care about you, because without your
support I could not have lived, Because of you, I am still able to
continue an artist, so don't worry, I'm still Yoshiki, still X Japan's
Yoshiki. The spirit runs in my blood, whatever I do and wherever I am.
I'll do my best to create music that is meaningful. Also, I am
continuously working on Violet UK because Violet UK will be my second
project since X Japan, and also the last project in my lifetime.
Meanwhile, let me enjoy Globe. They are friends of mine and I would
like to support them as much as I can. This may sound a little too
selfish, but I have been working on Violet UK so hard, and for such a
long time, I've gotten lost in it many times. But my fans, I mean you
guys, and your warm words made find the light whenever I was lost.
That is why I could keep working on Violet UK till this day. I think
the goal is near, but who knows, because the producer is me,
"Yoshiki". This guy can't compromise when it comes to his music. Do
you understand what I'm talking about? I've been fighting inside
because there are several "Yoshikis" in me. But in the end, I will let
him bring you music that is beautiful and beyond outrageous, whether
it will be popular or not. So please wait another 10 years... I'm
joking. I hope that day will come sooner, maybe even early next year.
By the time I finish Violet UK, I would love to visit the countries
where my fans are. I can't wait to see you because I love you, "I love
you all".
Yoshiki's message -- no.5
K: We realize that you have a confidence with your music from your
comment. What about the new sound in new Globe?
Y: GODZILLA vs. KING GIDORA
K: What?
Y: Overthrow Minimoni!
K: What?
Y: Overthrow London Boots!
K: Yoshiki-san, what do you want to say?
Y: When I write "reckless", read it "Yoshiki", and when I write "invincible",
read it "Violet UK" or "X fans"!
K: What?
Y: Overthrow Violet UK!
K: What? you are working for Violet UK, aren't you?
Y: I can't give it up. I already spent 800 million yen for its
recording. Oh, well, it doesn't matter. I can't stop doing it anyway (laugh).
K: What? Why do you overthrow the thing you are taking part in?
Y: I should do everything in real earnest!!
K: Yoshiki-san, what's joking and what's serious? I can't understand.
Y: So... I say blue blood is flowing in my body.
K: Oh my God! I can't follow you.
Y: Then don't follow me (laugh).
K: Oh, no. I will visit you again (laugh). Thank you very much for
taking your time for the interview.
Y: That's ok. Bye-bye (laugh).
